Upcycling Summer Workshop

Here is a really cool workshop to sign up for, this summer; its not just cool, but highly relevant for each one of us in todays times!

A wonderful team of upcycle designers & artists who are very serious about sustainable living, will provide their expert guidance to participants about ways of creating products keeping in mind reusability, aesthetics & design. In the 2 days, children will create upcycled & papier mache products.

Children may bring waste plastics, paper, metal cans, clothes, wires, their favourite but now broken toys...& transform them!

Through the Looking Glass: Open bookclub

Through the Looking Glass is our bi-monthly book club for anyone with an interest in mental health and literature.

Join us over tea to reflect on a book and open conversations on mental health and wellness. 

Participants will have to acquire a copy of the book from their own sources. We will try to stock a limited number of copies for sale at Kavade.

Kitchen Konnections

A storytelling session by women and about women but for everyone!!

Suitable for 16 years and above; we share some funny and sometimes wicked stories that brewed in a women's mind or came out of her many ruminations in the kitchen. Some of these stories highlight the shadow side within us. Especially found in world myths, come and listen to some and share some.

Lavanya Prasad has been using stories for many years now to connect, train and empower children and adults alike. She uses music and movement extensively in her telling and runs a venture called Tale'scope from 2014.

Sowmya Srinivasan has been telling stories from 2008 to people of all ages and all temperaments! She has a venture of her own called SoulSpace Storytell.

Yellamma & other folk stories

Urban Folk Project is a young collective started by Shilpa Mudbi Kothakota and Adithya Kothakota. UFP is working towards the collection of intangible culture across Karnataka and exhibiting it in a contemporary context. This involves field research, documentation, and curation of the content, among many other things.

Bhaktas of Bharathadesa

Did you know, that there was a time in India when people longed to listen to the songs composed by "great" people? Songs about bhakti and ways of life that were sung in the simplest language that a layman can understand, Why were these people considered great? Were they born great? No.Don't be surprised if I tell you that some of them were even thieves before they were revered"Bhaktas".What happened? What changed them? and What did they do to this land of ours? Are you curious? Then do come to Kavade attic on the 4th of August, Saturday, as we take you through the lives of two such people from Karnataka. Akkamadevi and Kanakadasa.

The session will be a musical storytelling event. after the session, we will sing songs composed by the great poets. This is a chance for you and your little ones to know about the beautiful compositions of the great poets and learn a few songs too. And if you know how to play the dhol or harmonium do get it along for more fun!
